The Autostrada NSA 339 (Italian for, highway NSA 339 ') is an Italian highway in Sicily, which runs from Catania to Augusta. The highway is part of European route European Route 45, which runs from Karesuvanto in Finland until the city Gela in southern Sicily.

Description and History

This highway is the only motorway in Italy, which has not received enindeutige name (such as A1 or A33 ). The official name is: strada nuova 339 Catania - Siracusa Anas. However, this name does not appear on the road signs along the way. Here the term aut CT -SR ( Catania - Siracusa autostrada ) is displayed. In truth, the highway does not end in Siracusa, but 25 km away in Augusta.

The NSA 339 represents direct extension of the RA 15, which forms the city bypass Catania. The highway then runs in a southerly direction to the village of Villa Mundo near Augusta. Here, the highway merges into the Strada Statale 114 Orientale sicula, a four-lane highway like road that leads up to Syracuse for the A18 motorway.

History

The construction work began after decades of work plan in March 2005. Construction costs amounted to 723 million euros. Construction was completed on December 9, 2009.

The motorway was opened in several sections:

  • On 28 July 2009, the section between Catania and Lentini was opened
  • On 10 December 2009 the section between Lentini and Villa Mundo followed
