Autpert Ambrose

Ambrose Autpert also Ambrose Ansbertus, ( * before 774 in the south of France, † 784 ) was a Benedictine abbot southern French origin and theological writer.

Life

Ambrose was abbot of the monastery of San Vincenzo in Volturno as Desiderius King of the Lombards. His Abtwahl led to disputes within the monastery, which meant that interfered even the rulers: Both Pope Stephen III. and Charlemagne dealt with the question of where the disagreements on the one hand on Ambrose's character, on the other hand were due to his Frankish origin. Charlemagne attacked in the summer of 783 joined in the dispute and sat Autpert in place of the abbot Potho again. The matter was finally brought before the Pope, for what purpose Autpert of Spoleto, where he had fled after his deposition, went to Rome, but the move died suddenly under mysterious circumstances - he's probably been killed.

He wrote a number of works on Biblical exegesis and on general questions of faith. These included comments on the Apocalypse of John, on the Psalms and the Song of Solomon. He also wrote lives of saints to Paldo, Tato, and Taso, a factory for the Assumption of Mary and one about the battle of the vices with virtues.
