Autrans

Autrans is a commune with 1640 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Isère, in the Rhône -Alpes. It is located about 15 kilometers west of Grenoble ( straight line ) in the Vercors mountain range.

The community is a well-known winter sports and is considered one of the most important centers of Nordic skiing in France. There are groomed cross-country trails with a total length of 160 km, for both traditional as well as for the free style. During the Olympic Winter Games 1968 here the biathlon, cross-country skiing and ski jumping competitions were held. The ski jump Le Claret is still in operation. In addition, there are two smaller ski resorts for alpine skiing. In summer there are 550 km of hiking trails and 150 km of mountain paths available.

Significant events include cross country race Foulée La Blanche (since 1979), the Rencontres d' Autrans ( Congress on Information Technology, since 1997) and the Festival international de film de montagne ( International Mountain Film Festival, since 1984).

Partner communities are Lillehammer in Norway and Puilboreau in the Charente -Maritime.
