Auður Auðuns

Auður Auðuns ( born February 18, 1911 in Isafjordur, † 19 October 1999) was an Icelandic lawyer and politician.

Life

Auður Auðuns was the daughter of Althingabgeordneten Jón Jónsson and Auðunn Margrétar Guðrúnar Jónsdóttur. After graduating from high school at the Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík in 1929, she began her legal studies at the Háskóli Íslands, which she completed in 1935 as the first woman in Iceland. A year later she married the judge Hermann Jónsson from the Supreme Court of Iceland, with whom she had four children.

Auður Auðuns was dated 19 November 1959 to October 6, 1960, together with Geir Hallgrímsson Mayor of Reykjavík, also the first woman in Iceland. She was also the first woman in Iceland who held the office of a minister ( Isl Ráðherrar ) than it was in 1971 Minister of Justice from October 1970 until the summer.
