Auxelles-Haut

Auxelles Skin ( previously German Upper Assel ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Auxelles -Haut is located on 552 m above sea level, about 14 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the southern Vosges, in an elevated position on both sides of the creek Rhome, at the edge of the basin of Giromagny and at the southern foot of the Planche des Belles Filles. It is located in the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

The area of ​​6.48 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the Southern Vosges. The strong in relief and predominantly forested area is located in the headwaters of Rhome. This ensures the drainage south to Savoureuse. North of the village reaches the soil community into the narrow valley to the source of Rhome. The valley is surrounded by steep, densely forested slopes. In most cases the municipal boundary runs along the surrounding mountain ranges in the west of Mont Ménard ( 927 m), in the north the Planche des Belles Filles ( is reached on the 1140 m the highest peak of Auxelles- skin) and to the east of Mont Ordon -Verrier ( 967 m). These mountains form the southern foothills of the Ballon d'Alsace.

Neighboring communities of Auxelles- skin Lepuix in the north, Giromagny in the east, Auxelles -Bas in the south and Plancher -Bas and Plancher -les -Mines in the West.

History

Is first mentioned in the 14th century Auxelles. The village was established by immigration of miners from Saxony and Tyrol, who mined lead and silver deposits here. First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Counts of Montbéliard, the village mid-14th century came under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Since 1569 Auxelles Skin and Auxelles -Bas is a distinction between the two communities. Together with the Sundgau came Auxelles- skin with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Towards the end of the 18th century, the exploitation of the mines has been set. Since 1793 Auxelles- skin belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Today Auxelles Skin is a member of the comprehensive eight municipalities municipal association Communauté de communes la Haute Savoureuse.

Population

With 313 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Auxelles- skin to the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 1010 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Auxelles- skin was early on a predominantly by industry (mills, weaving mills ) embossed village. Today, there are some operations of small and medium industries, including precision engineering. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration Belfort.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes. The main access is from Auxelles -Bas; another road connection with Giromagny. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 16 kilometers.
