Avallon

Avallon is a commune and seat of the sub-prefecture of the same arrondissement in the Yonne department in the Bourgogne region (Burgundy ). Avallon has 7229 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

History

Avallon was built before about 2000 years as a Gallic stronghold of the Aedui and proved to be due to its location on a granite plateau above the valley of the River Cousin to be strategically important.
