Avalon is an American film drama directed by Barry Levinson in the year 1990. Autobiographical The film was nominated for four Oscars, was at the ceremony but left empty-handed.
Action
The Russian- Jewish immigrant Sam Krichinsky comes on July 4, 1914 America and moved to Baltimore. He brings it together with his brothers prospering. The family lives together, many festivals are celebrated. But even Sam's sons Izzy and Jules remove inwardly and physically from the family clan and change their names. The modernity changes the coexistence of families and Sam are finding it increasingly difficult to understand modern life. Sam's grandson Michael is the only one who still listen to the old stories of his grandfather.

In addition to American Diner, Tin Men, and Liberty Heights Avalon is the fourth film, set in Levinson hometown of Baltimore. The distributed by TriStar Pictures film had on 5 October 1990 premiere, in Germany he came on 7 March 1991 in the cinemas. The film played in North America about 15.7 million U.S. dollars.

Awards and nominations
At the Academy Awards in 1991 Avalon was nominated for Best Cinematography ( Allan Daviau ), the best costume designer ( Gloria Gresham ), Best Original Screenplay ( Barry Levinson ) and Best Music (Original Score) ( Randy Newman). At the Golden Globe Awards, the film reached three nominations in the categories Best Movie - Drama, Best Music and Best Screenplay. Randy Newman was also nominated in 1992 for his film score for a Grammy Award. Barry Levinson won the 1991 WGA Award for Best Screenplay Writers Guild of America, Elijah Wood, Grant Gelt and Mindy Loren Isenstein were for Best Supporting Actor for the Young Artist Award nominations.
