Avanca is a comune ( freguesia ) in a circle Estarreja. It was first officially documented in 1046. On March 14, 1973, the place to Vila ( " Town " ) has been charged.

Sights and culture

(1874 - 1955) Here the politicians and physicians Egaz Moniz was born. He received the 1949 Nobel Prize for Medicine. In his birth house is furnished with the Casa- Museu Egaz Moniz a museum, you can see where both his private art collection ( antique porcelain and glass, painting, carpet art, etc.), as well as scientific and medical exhibits to his work.

In the resort will take place with the annual festival Avanca one of the international film festivals in Portugal.

2011 was held in Avanca for the second time the Campeonato Nacional de 1/8 TT, the national championship of a model car racing type.

The annual holy festivals are Santa Marinha on July 18, Sto. António on 13 August, Santa Luzia on 13 December, and S. Sebastião on 21 January.

Avanca is connected across the river Ribeira do Mourão with the nearby water landscape of the Ria de Aveiro, which is known for its variety of species.
