Avelgem is a municipality in the province of West Flanders in Belgium. It lies on the Scheldt and has 9641 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012). It consists of the nucleus and the municipal districts Avelgem Bossuit, Kerkhove Outrijve and Waarmaarde.

Ronse located 11 kilometers to the east, Kortrijk 13 km west-northwest, 14 km northeast of Oudenaarde, Ghent 35 km northeast and 64 km east of Brussels (all figures in a straight line from the nucleus to the respective city centers).

The next highway exits are located in the west at Kortrijk Oost and Deerlijk at the A14/E17 as well as in the southwest at Dottignies on the A17.

In Kortrijk, Oudenaarde and Ronse are the next regional stations and in Ghent and Brussels also keep on regional express trains.

In the capital city of Brussels there is an international airport.
