Avetheropoda

Deinonychus, a Dromaeosauride

  • Worldwide

As Avetheropoda ( Aves (birds ) and theropods (synonym: Neotetanurae ) ), the two advanced Theropodengruppen Carnosauria and Coelurosauria are summarized. The designation was made because of the affiliation of the feathered dinosaurs, including birds for this taxon.

The Avetheropoda differ in several features derived from original Theropodengruppen as the Ceratosauria and Spinosauroidea. This includes an additional skull window in the upper jaw, modifications on the palate, background skull, pelvis and hind legs. In addition, the area in which the tail is stiffened, shifted more towards the body.
