Aveyron

Aveyron [ avɛʀõ ] is a French department of atomic number 12, it is located in the Midi-Pyrénées region in the south of the country and named after the Aveyron river, a tributary of the Tarn.

Geography

The Aveyron is one of the largest and most diverse departments of France. It borders the departments of Tarn, Tarn -et -Garonne, Lot, Hérault, Gard, Lozère, and Cantal. Most important rivers are the Tarn and Aveyron.

History

The department of Aveyron was founded in 1790. Its territory is nearly identical to the province of Rouergue of the Ancien Régime. In 1808 it had to give up small parts of the territory of the newly created department of Tarn -et -Garonne.

Since the end of the 19th century a large community of AVEYRONNAIS lives in Paris.
