Avia M 332

In the LOM M 332 is an air-cooled 4-cylinder 4-stroke aircraft engine, the Czech manufacturer Avia. The crankshaft of the engine is in normal operation above. The oil supply is done by a dry sump

The motor M 332 was developed in 1958 at the company Walter Bohumil Simunek based on the Walter Minor 4 III. Notwithstanding the output type a OHC valve train was used and the engine can be switched off with a compressor and fuel injection provided. This has also led to far-reaching changes to the cylinder head and the piston relative to the output type. The six-cylinder variant was named Avia Avia M 337 took over the production of Walter and so the engines were manufactured by Avia until 1989, then LOM has taken over the production and repair of the engines.

In 1992 the production of the improved M 332A was added. Compared to the output type, the crankcase has been strengthened and changed the seal on the camshaft housing. This type, M 332A was approved in November 1992. Another variation is the M 332AK, with modified oil supply so that unlimited inverted flight is permitted. The approval was granted in October 1994.

From 1993, various improvements have been carried out to improve performance. This led to changes to the crankshaft, the installation of a more powerful oil pump and the use of ultra-fine oil filters. This led to the variants 332B and 332C at increased speed with increased speed and increased compression.

In 2003 an improved engine control in the production, which allows to regulate even with controllable pitch propellers, the engine power with only one lever.

Variants

  • A - Standard propeller with a fixed or variable pitch. Approval for simple aerobatics. Inverted flight is limited to 5 seconds.

  • AR - Modified version for driving a pusher propeller.
  • AK.1 - version with an alternator.
  • B - Performance enhanced permissible speed 3000 rpm, 118 kW
  • BK - like B, but modified oil supply so that unlimited inverted flight is permitted.
  • C - capacity increased allowable speed 3000 rpm, higher compression 124 kW
