Aviat Husky

The Aviat Husky is a two-seat light aircraft of the U.S. aircraft manufacturer Aviat Aircraft.

History

The development of Christians Industries started in 1985. The aircraft is one of the few in its class, designed with the help of a computer - aided design program. The first flight of the prototype took place in 1986, the FAA Type Certificate was issued in 1987.

The two pilot seats of abgestrebten shoulder Deckers are arranged in series ( tandem ). The fuselage of the aircraft consists of a covered with the very weather-resistant plastic PET tubular steel frame. In the wings of the nose box to the spar is made of all-metal construction with planking, the rear part of the wing is also covered with PET. The shoulder wing design was chosen because the optimal view, is important and necessary for the purposes of Husky, v. a observation and patrol flights. The machine has a relatively high power, because it has a 135 kW (180 hp) four -cylinder boxer engine O -360 Textron Lycoming, which is also equipped with a variable pitch propeller for low flying weight. This high power to weight ratio and with 17 sqm fairly large wing area, for optimal short takeoff and landing capability.

On request, the aircraft with floats or different major snow skids and hydraulically retractable ski ( RF8001 ) is available, which inserts from deep snow to concrete runways are possible. The Husky can also be equipped with a tow hook for the banner or glider towing.

The Husky has become one of the best -selling aircraft in the last twenty years for the manufacturer Aviat Aircraft. More than 450 pieces have already found their owners. The aircraft is used for observation, patrol or border control flights, the glider tow, for the agricultural flight and many other tasks.

Customers include the U.S. Department of Interior also includes the Kenya Wildlife Service, which uses a total of seven of these machines to protect, inter alia, herds of elephants from the air from poachers.

Variants

The Husky is available in different versions: the original A-1. A- 1A, 1B, and A- A- 1C. The " Pup " (English: Puppy ) has only optional flaps and a controllable pitch propeller and has only one 160 -hp Lycoming engine O- 320. The A -1C is also available with 200 hp injection engine, but this is not like any other approved for use with Mogas.

The various versions differ mainly by a higher take-off weight. Technically, they are identical. Only the horizontal stabilizer of A- 1B with 2200lbs MTOW and the A -1C has a reduced from -0.9 to -1.3 ° entering angle. Through this one achieves a straighter flow onto the elevator at the rear center of gravity positions. Retrofitting is easy and takes about 2 hours..

From the A -1B also another flap for better accessibility of the Kabinenkofferaums was installed. However, large items of luggage must be invited by the cabin .. The A -1B is also available with an even more powerful 200 hp engine as the MD version. This makes the machine but heavy and relatively top-heavy.
