Avicularia metallica

Avicularia metallica

The Avicularia metallica (sometimes called in German " Rotfußvogelspinne ") is a tarantula in the genus Avicularia and was described in 1875 by Anton Ausserer first time. My English name is " Pink Toe Tarantula ".

  • 4.1 feeding
  • 4.2 rearing

Habitat

Their range extends from Central America to Ecuador and northern Brazil. The arboreal spider enjoys spending time in bromeliad plants, expanding its solid living tissue but also in higher tree regions of the rainforests. According to their origin Avicularia metallica needs one days temperature of 27-30 degrees and at night the temperature should be 21-24 degrees. A humidity of 65-75 % is ideal.

Appearance

Juveniles

The so-called " spiderlings " have up to about 5 skinning a black carapace (upper part of the front body of the spider). The tarsi of the walking legs and the buttons are black. The remaining members are light brown. The abdomen has a red-orange base color which turns into light brown laterally. On the abdomen dorsally located is a black stripe that runs from the carapace towards spinnerets. On the sides of the abdomen still has three tapered black spots.

Adult animals

The name " Rotfußvogelspinne " has this kind of the typical red to pink toes in the adult stage. But these red toes have several Avicularia species, so it is going to sell the Avicularia avicularia under the name " Rotfußvogelspinne ". The body and the hair on the Aviculaira metallica is black, but has, and only in this way, a blue metallic sheen on. The black body hair is very dense, white hair tips can have color and is quite bushy. Adult female specimens can reach a body length of about 6-8 cm.

Behavior

Like almost all tarantulas are also the Avicularia metallica mainly nocturnal. Because of their calm and peaceful nature, she is a popular terrarium. She defends herself by " Ankoten " the attacker ( accuracy up to 30 cm), which secures her escape in surprise. Will she roused, the Rotfußvogelspinne can very quickly run and makes some surprising leaps.

Attitude

Avicularia metallica Artreine are now hard to find, as they are often unwittingly paired with other Avicularia species that look similar. In addition, some dubious wheeler trying to sell similar types as Avicularia metallica, to achieve a higher price.

The terrarium should be at least 30 × 30 × 40 cm (width × depth × height ) in size. This is padded down with about five centimeters potting soil. In order to keep the humidity high, the soil should be watered occasionally and planted or covered with moss. For shelter, for example, a cork tube has been proven. It can also be hung cork in a corner of the terrarium. Provision should be made for climbing through branches or plants. The female tarantula this type is about 15 years old.

Feeding

The Rotfußvogelspinne fed about once a week, depending on body size with crickets, locusts or cockroaches. The best time is just before its active phase, ie in the evening. The food animals should be bought in pet shops, as in self-caught animals is a risk of parasites or diseases. Animals that have not eaten in two days and uneaten food should be removed. Especially the period of moulting may not feed animal in the terrarium be because the spider at this stage is unprotected and can be eaten by the animals feed. The young animals ( spiderlings ) can flesh flies ( maggots are in any tackle shop available ) to be fed.

Rearing

A couple of Avicularia metallica can be kept together in a bigger terrarium without further notice. At the latest when construction of the cocoon of the female, the male should also be set individually. The female should eat a lot before this busy time. After 9 to 12 weeks hatch up to 150 pre-larvae. After the first molt ( after about 2 weeks), the juveniles come into the larval stage. After another two weeks, the second molt takes place. The nymphs are now exempt from the mother out of the cocoon. As Spider holder, take the spider cocoon her mother still while the young animals in pre-larvae or larval stage and are thus attracting many animals as you want nachzüchten, in a Heimchendose on. Once the larvae have skinned in the nymph stage, they should be set individually.
