Aviemore

Aviemore, on Scottish Gaelic An aghaidh Mhor, is a city and a tourist center in the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands with 2440 inhabitants ( 2006). The city is known for its skiing, as the starting point for walks in the Cairngorm Mountains and the grazing reindeer herd at Glen More - the only free-living reindeer in Britain. The station is located at the two hour traffic Highland Main Line and is also the starting point of the tourist railway line to Broomhill.

Aviemore was the first ski resort, which established itself in Scotland. The focus on tourism as a driving economic force in the village was established only in the 1960s.
