Avishay Braverman

Avischai Brawerman ( * 1948; Hebrew אבישי ברוורמן ) is an Israeli economist and politician, and former president of Ben- Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheba ( 1990-2006 ). Under his presidency, the number of students has increased from 5000 to 17000 and the University a worldwide reputation, especially in the area of ​​Desert Research attained.

Brawerman studied statistics and economics at Tel Aviv University and received his doctorate in economics at Stanford University. After working at the World Bank in Washington Brawerman returned to Israel and was sixteen years as president of Ben- Gurion University.

In November 2005 Brawerman went into politics and became a member of the Labor Party. In the 2006 election he was elected to the Knesset.
