Avner Less

Werner Avner Less, also Avner W. Less ( born December 18, 1916 in Berlin, † January 7, 1987 in Zurich ) was an Israeli police chief inspector, who in Jerusalem in the wake of the Eichmann trial, the interrogation of Adolf Eichmann headed 1960/61.

Education and work

Less visited Berlin in the Upper Forest School Charlottenburg, fled after handing over power to the Nazis to France in 1933 where he continued his training in agriculture.

1938 immigrated to Palestine Less and worked there during the first years on orange plantations. From 1941 to 1948 he was a police officer in the police mandate in Haifa and price checker for the local district. After the establishment of Israel in 1948, he joined the Israeli government service and worked as head of the import-export section in the Trade and Industry Ministry, then as Deputy Director of the Legal Department for the price control in the District of Haifa. From 1951 Less police officer was in the Department of Economic Crimes, 1954-1968 temporarily working abroad service as Attaché and Consul in New York City and Paris as well as permanent representative of Israel to the annual conferences of the UN Drug Commission in Geneva and at Interpol.

Eichmann's interrogator

From 1960 to 1961 Less was entrusted with the management of the interrogation of Adolf Eichmann and interrogated him even 275 hours long. Less describes Eichmann as a " born liar who will tell the truth when it appears useful to him. " Less had to change his interrogation tactics often because Eichmann most prolix and answered evasively.
