Avraam Papadopoulos

Avraam Papadopoulos (Greek Αβραάμ Παπαδόπουλος, born December 3, 1984 in Melbourne, Australia) is a Greek footballer who currently stands at Olympiakos Piraeus under contract. His preferred position is central defense.

Career

Papadopoulos began his career with the Greek club Digenis Lakkomatos. In 2001, Papadopoulos joined the Greek first division club Aris Thessaloniki. The age of 18, where he succeeded in 2002, the jump in the first team. In the first years Papadopoulos played as a hanging tip. Gradually, he oriented himself on the defensive and was initially used as a defensive midfielder and finally as a defender. In 2006 he moved from the position of right-back to its current position, the central defense.

In the summer of 2008, Papadopoulos moved for 2.5 million euros to the Greek giants Olympiakos Piraeus, which he is to this day.

National

Avraam Papadopoulos played in the years at Aris nine times in the Greek U- 21 team. On 1 February 2008 he was nominated for the Greek national team of Otto Rehhagel for the first time and made his debut on 5 February 2008 against the Czech Republic. He was in Greece squad for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Papadopoulos denied all three group matches, but could not prevent the elimination of Greece. In the opening match of the Euro 2012 football championship against Poland Papadopoulos suffered a torn ACL and was out for several months.
