Avraham Biran

Avraham Biran (* 1909 in Rosh Pina, Ottoman Empire, † September 16, 2008 in Jerusalem) was an Israeli archaeologist.

In 1934 he received his Master degree at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, in 1935 his doctorate. He was director of the Israel Department of Antiquities and Museums. In 1966, he began excavations at Tel Dan, where he led the Tel Dan inscription discovered in 1993. He was director of the Nelson Glueck School of Biblical Archaeology at the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion.

In 2002 he the Israel Prize.
