Avrieux
Avrieux is a commune with 425 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes. It is located in the canton of Modane in the valley of the Arc.
Together with the French community Villarodin -Bourget, it forms the Communauté de communes de la Norma.
In Avrieux is the Redoute Marie -Thérèse and the largest high-speed wind tunnel in Europe, research wind tunnel S1/Ma ONERA.
History
- October 6 877: Charles the Bald dies in Avrieux; he is buried in Nantua and later reburied in the Saint-Denis basilica.
