Avril Doyle

Avril Doyle ( born April 18, 1949 in Dublin as Avril Belton ) is an Irish politician. From 2004 to 2009 she was one of three members of the European Parliament for the constituency of Eastern Ireland. Doyle is a member of the Fine Gael.

Doyle was born in 1949 as the daughter of a politician Richard Belton. She studied biochemistry at University College Dublin in 1971 and received her Bachelor of Science degree. From 1974 to 1995 she was a member of the County Council of the County Wexford, and 1976-1977 Mayor of Wexford. They also sat from 1982 to 1989 and from 1992 to 1997 in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish Parliament. There she held various posts as Minister of State. In the years 1989 to 1992 and from 1997 to 2002 Doyle was one of the Seanad Éireann, the upper house of the Irish Parliament, at. She was then elected to the European Parliament in 1999, and entered successfully in 2004 for re-election. In the European Parliament it belongs to the Group of the European People's Party and is a member of the Executive Board. In the European elections in 2009 Doyle opted not to run again.
