Avro 528

The Avro 528 Silver King is a single-engine biplane aircraft of the British manufacturer Avro.

History

The 528 was an evolution of the bomber Avro 519 In September 1915, the British Admiralty ordered this aircraft at Avro, the first tests should take place in 1916.

However, delayed the development work at Avro, so that the machine could be finished until 9 September 1916. However, it turned out that the 528 was afflicted with manufacturing defects and also had significant engine problems. Production deficiencies have been corrected by December 1916 the engine problems persisted, and the engine manufacturer Sunbeam could not remedy.

This was followed by tests with different propellers, and only in February 1917 seemed to be a solution of the problems to be close. However, this was too late for the Admiralty, which expressed to Avro that they would put this aircraft not in service.

So it remained in the single piece of the Avro 528, which was flown for testing purposes ultimately with the British naval aviation and last seen in April 1917.
