Today, the company is in western europe for simple technique, minimal comfort and very low prices for new cars, but they were very popular in the former Eastern bloc countries in the 1970s to 1990. However, Lada is hardly known in (West ) Germany, and vehicles of this brand are also rarely seen. In East Germany and also in Austria, however, the name is still known. History

From 1966 to 1969, the Italian automaker Fiat built in the former Stavropol Volzhskii (later Tolyatti ) in the Samara Oblast the car plant Volzhskii awtomobilny zavod (abbr. WAS), which produced a version of the Fiat 124 for the Russian market since 1971. At the conclusion of the deal between Fiat and the Soviet government Togliatti, who died in 1964 chairman of the Italian Communist Party had been instrumental in, so you renamed the city of Stavropol - Volzhskii in his honor " Tolyatti ". Fiat itself built the Type 124, which had been elected to Europe in 1967 Car of the Year from 1966 to 1975. Russians paid the work partly with very liable to rust recycled steel ( due to the high copper content ), the Fiat and also Alfa Romeo used to build their own vehicles. The Italian vehicles from this period were accordingly prone to rust; some had to be welded after a few years to get through the main study.

The first WAZ -2101 said vehicle was in the Soviet Union and some Eastern bloc countries the additional name Zhiguli ( based on the eponymous mountain in Tolyatti, which got its name from the Volga sailboats so-called ). In 1974, led ( Old Russian for " favorite ", " beloved" ) the name Lada for export models. From this first model, there were several versions (2101/1200, 2103/1500, 21011/1300, 2102 Kombi, 2106/1600, 21061/1500S, 21063/1300S ), also the SUV 2121 ( Lada Niva ). The successor Lada 2105/2104 ( Sedan / Wagon) - known in Western countries as Lada Nova or Riva - came in 1979 with a slightly modernized body on the market. The Lada 2109 (1984-2005), who was nicknamed Samara (after millions of Samara city and the county of the same name, on the part of Togliatti ), was the first complete redesign of the work; unlike the Fiat -124 - successor models (front engine rear-wheel drive ) possessed of Samara for a front wheel drive. Newer models are the Samara Lada successor 11.12.2110 (1995), the small car Lada Kalina 1118/19/17 ( 2005) and the Priora 2170/72/71 (2007). The successor of the Niva, who will continue to build, jointly developed with General Motors. Since 2003 he has been a Chevrolet Niva ( Lada 2123 ) in the trade. From 1992 to 1995, the Moskvich was sold in 2141 in Germany as Lada Aleko, but mainly the Oka micro-car, which is built from multiple WAZ not associated works. The joint stock company OAO AvtoVAZ, founded in 1993, again in 2005, a company in the majority ownership of public companies; Main shareholders were the state arms export agency Rosoboronexport, the state-owned industrial holding company Rosprom and state Vneshtorgbank. 2007 Dialog increased the private Russian investment bank Troika at a AvtoVAZ and Renault 2008, involved a 25 percent stake in the company. Another 25 percent is held by the government holding Rostechnologii founded in 2007.

Brand logo

The brand logo goes back to the original name " Zhiguli ". Zhiguli is the name of the small Volga sailboats Zhiguli. Furthermore, the wear located in the mountains near the town of that name. So this refers shaped in the form of a Cyrillic W ship of the Volga River and its sailboats and not, as erroneously assumed on a Russian barge called Ladia. This is doubtful, since the name Zhiguli and the ship logo are used since the late 1960s, the word " Lada ", however, only since the 1970s.

The private team Russian Bears Motorsport later acquired the vehicles already fully developed and brought them into the 2008 season in the FIA World Touring Car Championship at the start. Before the subsequent World Touring Car Championship 2009 Lada decided again to a work commitment and henceforth supported the Russian team, which is now officially under the name LADA Sport was launched.
