Away in a Manger

Away in a manger (English, translated, mutatis mutandis: , away in a manger ') is an English Christmas carol.

The text was originally only in the first two stanzas, the authorship of which is unknown, and was first published in 1885 in a Lutheran Sunday school book. The song is sung to two different melodies: the older, dating from 1887, bears the name "Smith " and comes from James Ramsey Murray ( 1841-1905 ). This version is more in the United States - and there especially among Lutherans and other Protestant denominations - known. An alternative melody called Cradle song composed by William James Kirkpatrick in 1895. This is more common in England, but also included in the hymnal of posts originating from England Episcopal Church in the United States. This version is presented in a Christmas Sketch Mr. Beans of children who knock on his door in England.
