History

The sports hall was built in 1964 in the then popular sports park at the Ferdinand -Wilhelm- Fricke-Weg by architects Werner Dierschke and Volker Leonhardt and provided space for 6000 guests. By the end of 2012, it was AWD Hall. The current name is based on a lease the naming rights to the life insurance company Swiss Life. Reason for the name change is the extinction of the AWD brand after the acquisition of AWD Holding Swiss Life.
