Awdal

Awdal ( Somali Awdal, Arabic أودال, Audāl DMG ) is a region ( Gobolka ) in the north of Somalia, with about 401,000 inhabitants and part of the space occupied by the internationally unrecognized Somaliland region. Its capital is Baki.

The name of Awdal is related to the Sultanate of Adal.

More cities will be Boorama - the largest city in the region - and Zeila ( Saylac ). Awdal consists of the districts Baki, Boorama, Lughaya and Saylac. The region is located between the Gulf of Aden, Djibouti, the Ethiopian Somali region and the adjacent region within Somalia Woqooyi Galbeed (or Saaxil ). Formerly part of Awdal Woqooyi Galbeed.
