Axel F is an instrumental piece by German composer Harold Faltermeyer from 1984 and a soundtrack to the movie Beverly Hills Cop Stylistically, it falls into the realm of electronic dance music. The title derives from the name of the main character Axel Foley (played by Eddie Murphy).

Axel F was published on 21 January 1985. In addition to the single first came three more remix versions, the " Extended Version " (Remix: Louil Silas Jr.), the " London Mix" (Remix: Harold Faltermeyer ) and the "M & M Mix" (Remix by John Morales and Sergio Munzibai ). The instrumental is also included as a bonus track in the album " Harold F. " from the year 1988. For " Beverly Hills Cop III " another version was produced by Nile Rodgers and Richard Hilton, which was heard instead of the original in the movie.
Success
Axel F is one of the most successful instrumental recordings in the field of pop music. The title reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the peak position of the " Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks" and in the " Billboard Hot Dance Music ". In 1986, the piece with the Grammy Award was for Best album of original music written for a film or a TV special award.
From the instrumental piece by Ed Starink exist two cover versions: One with the original title and once as The Future Mix. Furthermore it from Key, The Ventures, Aventura ( Perdi El Control), Crazy Frog, Ismail Miraux and Ron Rockwell was covered. Psy samplete the song for his song champion.
Others use
The song is in the animated film Monsters vs.. Aliens played by the President of the United States, to establish peaceful relations in a vain attempt with an alien robot probe. This parodies the corresponding scene in the movie Close Encounters of the third kind
