Axel Michaels

Axel Michaels ( born May 26, 1949 in Hamburg ) is a German Indologist and scholar of religion.

From 1991 to 1996 Michael was Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Bern. Since 1996 he has been Professor of Indology at the University of Heidelberg.

Michaels is Speaker of the Collaborative Research Centre Ritual Dynamics at the University of Heidelberg and co-director of the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" at the University of Heidelberg.

In addition to the authorship of his own works Michaels editor or co-editor of a variety of fonts.
