Ayabaca Province

Ayavaca or Ayabaca is one of the eight provinces which form the Piura region of northwestern Peru. In the north and east it borders with Ecuador, to the south by the provinces Morropón and Huancabamba and to the west by the provinces of Piura and Sullana. The provincial capital is Ayabaca.

Geography

The Ayabaca province covers an area of ​​5230.68 km ². It is located, as well as the neighboring province of Huancabamba, in the western chain of the Andes. The provincial capital Ayabaca is the highest in the region of Piura. At the extreme northern edge of the province is grazed by the Panamericana.

Waters

The three major rivers that criss-cross the province are as follows:

  • Rio Quiroz

This rises to about 3900 m, flows into the Macará, which in turn flows into the Chira. In addition to numerous irrigation, the river also operates a hydroelectric power plant.

  • Río Chipillico

This river also flows through large parts of the Piura Region, before finally also leads to the Chira.

  • Río Yapatera

Population

According to the 2005 census, the population of the province is approximately 144,000
