Ayabaca

Ayabaca is the capital of the province of Ayabaca and the eponymous district in the northeast of the Piura Region in the northwest of the South American Andean country of Peru.

Ayabaca was founded in 1571 by the Spaniards, after the number of the indigenous population had been decimated in the region. The full name is after the first patron saint Ayabacas " Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Ayavaca ". The city is located in the western chain of the Andes at 2,715 m. Today's Patron Saint is the " Señor Cautivo ". Its great Feast day is celebrated every year to 13 October and is visited every year by a large crowd believers.

In 1802 Ayabaca was visited by Alexander von Humboldt, who was able to determine the height of it to 2,715 meters.
