Ayelech Worku

Ayelech Worku (born 12 June 1979 in Arsi region ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who has now turned to the marathon after a career on the track.

In 1995 she was at the All-Africa Games second in the 5000 -meter run. At the World Athletics Championships 1997 in Athens, she was about the same distance Twelfth.

Two years later they won games in the 5000 m of the Pan-African and finished third at the World Cup in 1999 in Seville.

Shortly before the 2000 Olympics she worked with 14:41,23 on their 5000 -meter personal best. In Sydney, she just missed an Olympic medal and was in fourth behind Gabriela Szabo 14:42,67 (ROM), Sonia O'Sullivan ( IRL) and her compatriot Gete Wami.

The following year she again won the bronze medal over 5000 m at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton.

While the debut at the Amsterdam Marathon in 2006 with a fifth place in 2:31:11 not quite meet expectations, followed in 2007 by an increase in the Hamburg Marathon, which she won in 2:29:14.
