Ayia Trias, Cyprus

Agia Trias, Greek Αγία Τριάς, Holy Trinity, is a basilica in the local area of Sipahi on the Karpas Peninsula in the Famagusta District, Cyprus.

The early Byzantine columns basilica was built in the 6th century. About a columned narthex they reached the three-aisled church with east-facing apses. In the nave remains of a pulpit are available. The aisles had patched galleries in the Eindachung it was a wooden structure. Before the main apse of the Basilica of Heraclius, Aedon, Euthalis and Eutychianos be called in a mosaic inscription as donors.

From the attached baptistry marble steps are obtained, which lead down to a cross-shaped pool. On the west side of the basilica remains of the Bishop's Palace are visible.

Already one and a half centuries after it was built the basilica was destroyed along with the nearby settlement. After trying a new use, it was eventually definitively abandoned by the end of the 8th century.

Became famous for the ruins of the church building through the beautifully preserved mosaic floors with their geometric oriental patterns that are based on models used in the Eastern Mediterranean school.
