Ayolas (Paraguay)

Ayolas is a town and district in the department of Misiones in the Republic of Paraguay.

The city lies on the Paraná River on the border with Argentina, about 45 m above sea level and has about 12,400 inhabitants (calculated 2006). It bears the name of the Spanish conquistador Juan de Ayolas. In the vicinity of the city, operated jointly with Argentina hydropower plant is located on the Rio Parana Yacyretá. During the construction of the hydroelectric plant of the district Villa Permanent originated as a settlement for construction workers and workers of the power plant.
