Aytré
Aytré is a commune with 8970 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Charente -Maritime in the Poitou -Charentes. It belongs administratively to the district of La Rochelle and the Canton Aytré, whose main town ( chef -lieu ) it is. Residents Aytrésiens call themselves.
Geography
The municipality is located in the metropolitan area southeast of La Rochelle and is bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. Neighboring municipalities are:
- La Rochelle in the north- west,
- Périgny in the Northeast,
- Saint- Rogatien in the east,
- La Jarne in the southeast and
- Angoulins in the south.
On the northern boundary of the Canal de la Moulinette that crosses a saline pool, and finally flows into the Canal de Marans à la Rochelle runs.
Transport links
Aytré is developed in west-east direction from the department D939 road that leads from La Rochelle to Surgères. The north -south axis is the D137, which was extended here to a bypass road from La Rochelle under the name of national road N137. In parallel, a railway route from La Rochelle to Rochefort runs, in the district of Pest d'Aytré has a stop. Another railway line branches off in the municipal area and leads towards Niort.
