Azadegan League

The Azadegan League (Persian ليگ آزادگان ) is the second highest division in the Iranian football after the Iranian Pro League. It was introduced for the 2001/2002 season in 2000 after the Iranian Football Federation IRIFF decision.

By the year 2001, the Azadegan League was the top division in Iran. But in wanting a larger professionalization was founded by the Iranian Football Federation, the Iranian Pro League as a major league new. The two-part second division then got the name Azadegan League.

It consists of two geographically separate leagues. The winner of each season rises up in the Iranian Pro League and second place, to decide in the relegation through the third climber. Accordingly, three teams from the Iranian Pro League descend. The thirteenth and vierzehenten of the Azadegan League from rising.

The teams in the Azadegan League have right to start the Hazfi Cup, the national cup competition in Iranian football.
