Azem Vllasi

Azem Vllasi (* 1948 in Rubovce, Kosovska Kamenica, Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar politician and lawyer Albanian nationality.

Life

From 1986 to 1988 Vllasi was Chairman of the League of Communists of Kosovo. In May 1988, he was deprived of his office, after he had the seizure of power by the Serbian government of Slobodan Milošević in the wake of the anti-bureaucratic revolution opposes. His successor was Kaqusha Jashari, which was itself after a short time replaced by those regarded as loyal police chief Rahman Morina.

In connection with the ongoing civil unrest Vllasi was arrested in March 1989. After his acquittal in April 1990 he settled as a lawyer in Pristina.

Since 2004 Vllasi is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Kosovo, which is now run by Agim Çeku. However, he takes no official position in the party.
