The lead broadcaster is the public ITV. 2007, the private station AZTV expressed a desire to send a contribution for Azerbaijan. Since AZTV was not a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU ), no participation came about. With the accession of ITV for EBU in the second half of 2007, a participation of Azerbaijan in 2008 was possible. In addition to Azerbaijan and the other two Caucasus republics participated in the ESC, with Armenia in 2006 and Georgia in 2007 for the first time were there.

Success in competition

When Euro Vision Song Contest in Belgrade Azerbaijan reached the eighth place with 132 points in the final of the Euro Vision Song Contest. In the following years, a top ten placement was achieved: In Moscow, a third, a fifth place in Oslo and in the fourth part, 2011 in Dusseldorf even the first place. 2012 reached one fourth place and one year later place.

Since the first participation of Azerbaijan always got 12 points from Turkey and Azerbaijan were always 12 points to Turkey. In the years 2011 and 2013 this was not possible, since Turkey was eliminated in the semifinals in 2011 and 2013, Turkey did not participate. Instead, they placed in the two years, the twelve points to Ukraine.

Since the 17th place in Greece in 2012 Azerbaijan is the only country which can be found at each participating since the introduction of the semifinals in the top ten countries, the top 10. Curiously, all placements 1-5 reached the country since 2009 exactly once.
