Clinical information

Type and duration of application

Therapy with Azilsartan can be used as monotherapy or in combination therapy with other antihypertensive agents. The starting dose 40 mg once daily is recommended. If by any adequate blood pressure control is possible, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 80 mg once daily.

Contraindications ( contraindications)

Pharmacological properties

Mechanism of action ( pharmacodynamics )

The active ingredient as the potassium salt of its prodrugs Azilsartanmedoxomil ( an ester of the carboxylic acid Azilsartan, trade name Edarbi ) is used, which is rapidly after oral administration converted into the active form, Azilsartan. The mechanism of action corresponds to that of the other AT1 antagonists and is described in detail in the article about the group of active ingredients sartans.
