Aziz Mian

Aziz Mian ( born April 17, 1942 in Delhi, India, † December 6, 2000 in Tehran, Iran) was a Pakistani singer and an important representative of Qawwali.

Mian was born in 1942 in India and moved in 1947 as a five year old with his family in the newly formed Pakistan, the age of ten he began to learn the qawwali singing as a disciple of Ustad Abdul Wahid. In addition, he spent 16 years of Data Ganj Baksh student, one of the most respected Sufis in India. He also has degrees of Punjab University, Lahore, acquired in history and Urdu literature.

His breakthrough came in 1966 with an appearance in Mian Tehran before Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Until his death, he had received almost every possible award in Pakistan and India for its artistic activities. His motto was Insan hai azim, that is, Man is wonderful.

On December 6, 2000, he lived in Tehran in order to sing at the invitation of the government for the death of Imam Ali. Due to complications from hepatitis he died there. He left three sons Imran, Tabrez, and Naeem, all three are also qawwali singer, stylistically, in the tradition of her father.
