Azja

Azja (also Azja, son of Tuhaj Bey ) is a fictional character of Sienkiewicz historical epic Pan Wołodyjowski. He is an enemy and rival Michał Volodyovski. He is a Tatar who wants Barbara Jeziorkowska kidnap and can colonize uninhabited regions of Ukraine with the Crimean Tatars to protect Poland's borders (such as the Zaporozhian Cossacks ) and Hetman in the service of the Polish king.

Although the figure Azja is invented, his father Tuhaj Bey really lived and was a historically significant figure.

In Jerzy Hoffman's 1969 film adaptation Azja is played by Daniel Olbrychski.
