Azygos lobe

A venae azygos lobe arises as a common anatomical variant, if, during the Fetogenese part of the right lung upper lobe medial to the azygos vein upwards developed.

While normally the azygos vein draws directly on the mediastinum from back to front to the superior vena cava, it runs in this variant by the additional flap gap or at the bottom thereof. Because the course of this Azygosseptums from back to front, a lobe is venae azygos in normal chest radiograph usually drop shaped well recognizable, with the belly of the drop of the axial taken azygos vein corresponds.

The variant has no clinical significance, as a rule, but it should be known before thoracic surgical operations in order to be considered, if applicable can.
