B'nai B'rith Girls

The B'nai B'rith sister associations were founded in 1897 and were Jewish women's groups within the B'nai B'rith Order, which was founded in 1882. The sister association was a very exclusive organization, because it could occur only women whose husband had been a member of the B'nai B'rith Order. In addition, high admission fees had to be paid, which could muster only wealthy women. In contrast to the Jewish Women's Federation, who wanted to be independent of male domination, the sister association understood as a part of the B'nai B'rith Order, the only men took up yourself. The B'nai B'rith sister association took care of cultural programs and charity work. However, the struggle for greater women's rights did not support the sister association.
