B71 Sandoy

B71 Sandur or B71 Sandoy, full name Sandoyar Ítróttarfelag ( " sports club of Sandoy " ) abbreviated B71 ( Bóltfelagið frá 1971 - "Ball Club 1971 ") is a Faroese football club based in Sandur on the island Sandoy.

The association consists solely of amateurs and all offices are honorary.

History

In Sandur there used to be a tradition of handball (especially of women), who fell asleep in the 1960s. After that it was the football, for which the youth was interested.

So every night from spring until late was played in the fall of football on the beach of Sandur. By participating in the football on the Faroe Islands could only be dreamed of at this time, because the clay court was perhaps good enough for field handball, but not for regular football at club level.

In the 1960s there were several local derbies with a selection from the northern fishing village Skopun. The man behind this event was the sailor Steen B. Kristiansen, who also had experience in professional sports. It was played in Sandur. Gates or the like, there was not this instead four stones were taken. This local derby was repeated every year and aroused great interest of the villagers. Trucks, the fans were taken from Skopun approach - that was the time when there were hardly any cars in the Faroe Islands. For the game, the Sunday school was in the church of Sandur specially brought forward to allow participation in both. In the first game it was not even soccer clothing. It was played in street shoes, white shirts and synthetic pants. Later there were also soccer shoes and jerseys right.

End of the 60s began with the construction of the central elementary school ( Meginskúlin ) for the whole island. It should also develop a sports field. Thus, the establishment of a proper sports club was now close. On January 1, 1970, it was so far and the sports club was sand. In the summer of the sports ground of the school was completed and was officially opened in September with a match between HB Tórshavn B36 Tórshavn. The sports club of Sandur was allowed then to share the sports field as an association space. On Sunday, after the inauguration of the first training session of the association was to take place. That September 27 was overshadowed, however, by the plane crash the day before on the island of Mykines, in which eight people were killed, which enabled the entire country in mourning.

The following year, the Association for the Faroese Football League announced - with a men's and a Juniors team. The first two league games in Sandur took place in April 1971. The boys won, but the men had not yet grown the game arts of HB. At that time, all players from Sandur came, and that was also the club name: Sand.

In 1972, the new school of Sandoy was finally opened. Now students came from all over the island from Skopun, Skálavík, Húsavík, Dalur and Skarvanes, and they had also interest in club football. That was the reason why the club from now on B71 ( Bóltfelagið frá 1971 - "Ball Club 1971 " ) was called instead of sand.

After 1989 directly the championship was celebrated in the first division as a climber, was immediately followed by the descent, in 1992 there was a return for six years in the luxury class. After two more short stays in the first division, the club played in 2010 again top notch. After two downs in a row, B71 is now back in the third division.
