Baal Shem Tov

Rabbi Israel ben Eliezer (c. 1700 in Okop at Kamieniec Podolski ( Poland - Lithuania), † May 22 1760 in Miedzybórz, Podolia Province, Poland - Lithuania, called Baal Shem Tov (, owner of the good name ', also: Master of the good Name ') or abbreviated Besht ) is considered the founder of the Hasidic movement within the religious Judaism.

His exact birth date is unknown. Many details of his biography are applied adhesive. It seems certain that he was married twice, with his second wife had a son and a daughter, and that he died in Podolia in May 1760 on the second day of the weekend festival of Shavuot, in the shtetl Miedzybórz. His daughter Odel ( also named as Hodel or needle) had two sons, both of whom were also rabbis: Rabbi Moshe Chaim Efraim of Sedilkow and Rabbi Baruch of Tulczyn and Miedzybórz.
