Bab Berdieyinne Mosque

The Bab- Berdieyenne Mosque (Arabic بردعين, french Mosquée Bab el- Berdaïne ) is one of several mosques in the Moroccan city of Meknes. The earth building was built in the late 17th century by Sultan Moulay Ismail and stands near the city gate Bab Berdieyenne (Gate of the pack-saddle manufacturers, French: Bab el- Berdaïne ) in the north of the old town, which was incorporated in 1996 as a whole in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

On 19 February 2010 collapsed after days of rainfall a minaret and part of the roof of a packed with around 300 people mosque during Friday prayers. King Mohammed VI. announced the reconstruction of historical models. The collapse was related to the fact that the mosque was dilapidated and cost 41 people their lives, more than 80 were injured. The victims were only men, as women 's prayer in the mosque was not allowed.
