Babe Dye

Cecil Henry "Babe " Dye ( born May 13, 1898 in Hamilton, Ontario, † January 2, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois, USA ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who from 1919 to 1931 for the Toronto St. Patricks, Hamilton Tigers, Chicago Blackhawks and New York Americans played in the National Hockey League.

Career

He was already a star in football and had available an offer from the baseball team Philadelphia Phillies over $ 25,000 when he was hired in 1919 by the Toronto St. Patricks to Hamilton. In his first game he scored twice and was immediately ordered back to Toronto. After 1923 he was the top scorer of the league, he wanted to try in the following season in baseball and only returned in December back on the ice. So he could not defend, but what he did next year should succeed again his title of course. His only Stanley Cup he won in 1922 in Toronto. With 31 years, a broken leg ended the career of the small, so -scoring striker.

After end of his career as an active player Dye served as head coach of the Chicago Shamrocks and St. Louis Flyers in the American Hockey Association.

In 1970 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
