Babe Pratt

Walter " Babe" Pratt ( born January 7, 1916 in Stony Mountain, Manitoba, † December 16, 1988 in Vancouver, British Columbia ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who from 1935 to 1947 for the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins played in the National Hockey League.

Career

From his home in Manitoba, he traveled by freight train on to play for the " Kenora Thistles " and took in his 26- year career 15 titles. The first winning the Stanley Cup, he managed the New York Rangers 1940. Together with Ott Heller his defensive line was instrumental in the fact that his team had conceded just 77 goals conceded in 48 games. Four years later he was in Toronto the strongest players in the league and won there in 1945 his second Stanley Cup, scoring the winning goal in the last final game.

As a player, a coach, he was employed by the NHL still at the New Westminster Royals.

After his playing career, he was from 1970 in the vicinity of the Vancouver Canucks works. There he died at the Pacific Coloseum during a game the Canucks.

In 1966 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
