Babe Siebert

Albert Charles "Babe" Siebert ( born January 14, 1904 in Plattsburgh, Ontario; † August 25, 1939 ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who from 1925 to 1939 for the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Maroons, New York Rangers and Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League played.

Career

Siebert was born in 1904 in Ville Platt, but grew up in Zurich (Ontario). He first played in Kitchener and Niagara Falls. In the NHL, he started with the Montreal Maroons in 1925 and won in his first season the Stanley Cup. Together with Hooley Smith and Nels Stewart he formed the S-Line, one of the best storm ranks of their time. Siebert moved in 1932 to the New York Rangers, where she won his second Stanley Cup. Already in the course of the following season went on his way to the Boston Bruins. At the request of the new coach for the Canadiens Siebert was brought back in 1936 together with Howie Morenz to Montreal. Now already over 30 years old Siebert has now been used as a defender and was in this position, the Hart Memorial Trophy win. Until 1938, he played with the Canadiens and changed in the coming season behind the gang. After just one season as coach of the Montreal Canadiens Babe Siebert died in 1939 in a swimming accident.

For the third time in NHL history a All-Star Game was initiated. The proceeds went to Siebert's family.

In 1964 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
