Bach House (Köthen)

The Bach House Köthen is the home of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach during his stay from 1717 to 1723 in Köthen (Anhalt).

In all probability, he first lived from December 1717 to 1719 in the Schalaunischen street 44 until the new Wall Street 25/26 was done, then he moved to this new building.

Köthen Bach had thus two houses. Today in Schalaunischen Straße 44 is a 1968 -built department store (contact department store, later Fischer's department store, currently drugstore and bakery), the overbuilt and the land timber market 10. The second still stands today as part of the nursing home in the middle of St. Elisabeth Köthener baroque quarter.

Since the end of the 19th century was sought after the Bach House in Köthen. A study in the years 2006 to 2008, funded by the European Union, had all the information available, in particular from original documents, literature, lap register of the city of Köthen, together and fed it into a semantic network. Using the process of elimination were examined every potential brook homes. In particular, bibliometrics has been used to investigate chains of arguments by historians and re-evaluate.
