Bachirou Salou ( 2012)

Bachirou Salou ( born September 15, 1970 in Lomé ) is a former Togolese football player with German nationality and a former member of the national team of Togo. He played on the position of center forward.

Career

Salou was, during its holiday in Cameroon discovered as a 19- year-old Anton Ondruš, a former national team of Czechoslovakia in a local provincial association. Ondruš mediated Salou 1990 Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he was crowd favorite quickly.

After five years he moved to MSV Duisburg; there, he managed to establish itself as a striker in the Bundesliga. But already at Borussia Dortmund, where he remained only one year, as well as in his later positions, he could not build on the achievements of Duisburg days. Particularly evident his power drop was in the time at Eintracht Frankfurt: For 1999/2000 season committed for about 7 million marks from Dortmund, he was one and a half years later sold for only 700,000 marks to Hansa Rostock.

After 14 years in the two German leagues Salou changed in the summer of 2004, first in the 2nd Belgian League for KAS Eupen, but returned already the winter break back to Germany, where he was active at SC chapels Erft to 2006; in 2003 he had played briefly for the Lower Rhine Association division.

Salou completed a total of 253 games in the Bundesliga and 47 games in the Bundesliga 2, he scoring 51 first division and second division 11 goals. For Togo, he played 39 international matches in which he scored 17 goals.

Special

  • Salou is one chosen by the fans so-called " living legend " of the MSV Duisburg. As for the number of scored goals for the club he was surpassed in history only by MSV Michael Tönnies and Bernard Dietz.
  • During the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he served as team manager for the national team of Togo in use.
  • Bachirou Salou is an ambassador for the initiative "go for children - momentum for change" that links educational projects in Africa with soccer.

Personal

Salou now lives near Mönchengladbach and is still working for the Football Association from his home country of Togo in several functions. His son, Mamoudou Salou, who was born in 1989, is also footballer and currently plays as a striker with the SV Uedesheim in the Oberliga Niederrhein.
